From Institutional Whiteness to Intersectional Diversity. Curating Inclusion in Higher Education

This lecture will begin by detailing my personal encounter with institutional whiteness during formal education in the UK. I will describe my entry into academia and chart the path to my current position. Having discussed understandings of intersectionality and its implementation, I will then reflect upon the methods to tackle institutional whiteness and discuss the various ways to create a more inclusive teaching, learning and research environment. Summarising, I will argue that the idea of ‘curation’ is a useful way to envisage the deep changes that need to be made in order to achieve sustainable inclusion in higher education.
