Transnational Perspectives on Critical Diversity Literacy. Critical Diversity Literacy as a Travelling Concept
Prof. Pamela Dube
18.11.2021, 18 Uhr
The lecture will introduce the concept of Critical Diversity Literacy
(CDL) as coined by Melissa Steyn and contextualise it within some South
African realities of exclusion which eventually gave birth to the
concept of CDL. It will also touch on some historic case examples of
systemic national efforts for the intentional restructuring and
transformation of the South African higher education landscape to create
a system that is built on the principles of social inclusivity, mutual
respect and acceptance, and free of discrimination and artificial
barriers to access and success.
In addition there will be a reflection on CDL as a traveling concept,
not only across geographical spaces but also within the multiple layers
of intersectionality and diversity literacy theories for radical
inclusivity and institutional diversity.
